Resilience in Personal Life: How Struggles Built My Inner Strength

Categories:

TL:DR

This is my personal journey of resilience in personal life — from facing financial hardships in childhood to building a career in digital marketing and SEO. I started as a tuition teacher at 16 to support my family, got my first job in content writing via Shine.in, and later moved to Gurugram in 2024 for career growth. Through loss, struggle, and change, I’ve learned that growth isn’t about perfection — it’s about progress, purpose, and the people who shape us.

Growing up, I never imagined I’d be writing a story like this, especially not on a website that carries my own name. But here I am, sharing a part of my journey, shaped deeply by resilience in personal life. Not because I have all the answers, but because I’ve lived through enough questions to share a few truths.

This isn’t just a story of challenges, it’s a reflection of how quiet sacrifices, unseen struggles, and unwavering love helped me keep going. Every setback shaped me. Every hardship carried a lesson. And somehow, through it all, I discovered a strength I didn’t know I had.

The Childhood That Taught Me More Than Classrooms Could

I was born into a family where love was abundant, but financial security was always on shaky ground. My father, a determined businessman, once ran a flourishing business. But life had its own plans. When he fell seriously ill due to uncontrolled diabetes, everything changed.

His illness didn’t just impact his health, it slowly dismantled the very foundation of our financial stability. With no one else to manage the business in his absence, things spiraled. My mother, though strong-willed, came from a different world, the only daughter in a family of respected servicemen, pampered and protected all her life. She had no experience with business, but she gave it her all.

While she juggled doctor visits, emotional breakdowns, and daily survival, the business quietly crumbled in the background. I still remember days when we didn’t know if we could afford my father’s next medical visit.

The anxiety was constant.

But amidst all this, my parents made one decision that shaped my entire life — my education would not be compromised.

I wasn’t a straight-A student, but I was determined.

I didn’t have the luxury to wait for adulthood to start helping.

I began giving tuitions from Class X.

It wasn’t much, but it felt right, like I was contributing in my own way. That phase of life taught me resilience, not through big speeches or classroom lessons, but through lived experience.

Becoming a Teacher at 16, Not by Profession, But by Purpose

When I was in Class X, I started giving private tuitions. Dozens of notebooks, rows of small children, and long hours after school became a part of my everyday routine. It wasn’t about pocket money or experience. It was about survival, and about standing beside my parents when they needed it most.

This was my first real life lesson from hardships. Not from books, but from life itself. I learned that strength doesn’t always shout; sometimes, it quietly shows up, every single day.

In 2013, after completing my graduation in English Honours, I taught for 9 months in a primary CBSE school, the same school where I had once studied as a child. That phase was grounding. I was on the other side of the classroom now, carrying the same curiosity in my heart, but with more responsibility on my shoulders.

Most of my peers were preparing for civil service exams or technical jobs, but I was exploring — looking for a career path that felt right.

In 2016, after completing my Master’s in English, I landed my first job as a content writer in Kolkata.

When I had just completed my Master’s degree, I wasn’t sure where to begin. Like many freshers, I signed up on platforms like Naukri.com, LinkedIn, and Shine.in, hoping to land a job that would help me support my family and apply my education in a meaningful way.

Eventually, it was Shine.in that gave me my first breakthrough — a content writing position in Kolkata. That small opportunity became the stepping stone to everything I’ve built since. Today, while I actively use LinkedIn for networking and professional growth, I still look back with gratitude at that first offer that came through Shine, reminding me how one click can truly change your life.

I had no idea back then that this would lead me into the world of content marketing, SEO, and what would soon become my own digital growth journey.

That unplanned start, from classrooms to content, shaped the foundation of my career.

Starting My Career Without a Roadmap

A few days after completing my post-graduation in English Literature, I got my first job as a content writer in a small company in Kolkata.

It wasn’t glamorous. It wasn’t well-paid. And it definitely wasn’t considered a “real career” by many around me.

But it was a beginning, one that would define my career in digital marketing.

I vividly remember my first day. I didn’t know the route, so my father came with me. He waited outside the office until I settled in, just in case I needed help. That quiet presence, that support, it meant everything. I didn’t realize then, but that day became a symbol of how my journey would unfold: unsure, humble, but full of heart.

That job introduced me to a world I knew nothing about – SEO, keyword research, education writing for foreign university students, blogs, metadata, and how websites functioned behind the scenes. I began to understand how the power of words could drive visibility, build brands, and convert readers into customers. Slowly, content marketing wasn’t just a buzzword, it became my skill, my career path.

Back then, no one around me truly understood what content writing could lead to.

But I chose to trust my instinct.

And that trust, backed by effort and curiosity, laid the groundwork for the digital growth journey I’m still walking today.

One post, one strategy, one story at a time.

Losing My Father in 2020 And Learning to Stand Taller

Just as life had started to feel a little more stable, 2019 brought another blow — my father was hospitalized with pneumonia. The recovery was difficult, and before we could fully process it, the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. That was the year I lost my father.

Nothing prepares you for that kind of loss. The silence in the house was overwhelming.

My mother and I, already emotionally exhausted from years of illness and instability, were left navigating life without the strongest pillar of our family.

I broke down. Many times.

But in the middle of that heartbreak, I also learned the true meaning of resilience in personal life.

I kept going, not because I was brave, but because I had no choice.

I continued to write, work, and support my mother.

I leaned into the only thing that gave me some sense of control — my work in content marketing and SEO.

Every word I wrote became a quiet form of healing.

That phase didn’t just test me, it transformed me.

And I learned that strength doesn’t always shout. Sometimes, it just shows up every day, quietly.

2024: The Leap of Faith — Moving to Gurugram

Until 2024, my entire life — schooling, graduation, career — was deeply rooted in Kolkata. It was my comfort zone, my home, my safety net.

But somewhere deep down, I knew I needed to step out if I truly wanted to grow.

So in June 2024, I took a leap of faith and moved to Gurugram, Haryana, to start a new phase of my digital growth journey.

It wasn’t an easy decision.

I left behind familiar streets, friends, and everything I had ever known. But one thing I couldn’t leave behind was my mother.

After losing my father in 2020, I knew she’d be all alone at home, and that thought never sat right with me. So I brought her with me.

If I was going to rebuild life from scratch, I wanted her by my side, just like she’s always been.

Since it was my first time stepping out of my hometown, a quiet fear traveled with me —

What if I couldn’t adjust?

What if the people at my new workplace were difficult?

What if I didn’t belong?

These were thoughts I never voiced out loud, but they lingered in my mind.

Thankfully, by God’s grace, everything turned out better than I expected. I was welcomed into a work culture that was both kind and challenging, and slowly, that fear faded.

In Gurugram, I joined a reputed presentation design agency, where I now work in digital marketing. My day-to-day includes on-page optimization, content audits, SEO performance tracking, and even managing LinkedIn content for company pages and the founder. It’s a role that balances both creativity and data — and I love that.

What Keeps Me Going

As I continue to shape my career in digital marketing, I carry with me the imprints of every chapter that came before.

I still remember the evenings I spent giving tuitions under the dim light of a flickering tube.

I remember the nights filled with silent tears during my father’s illness, and the mornings I showed up for work anyway, because that was the only thing that made sense at the time.

These moments aren’t wounds; they’re my roots. They remind me of where I started and why I keep going.

Today, I work with SEO strategies, create performance-driven content, and manage digital storytelling that helps businesses grow, but behind every technical skill and marketing metric, there’s a girl who once didn’t even know what content marketing was. I never planned for a career in SEO; I grew into it, word by word, story by story.

I may not be the best content writer in the world, but I pour my whole self into every project I take on. My strength doesn’t come from degrees or job titles, it comes from surviving, adapting, and choosing to keep moving forward, even when the path is uncertain.

Because I believe every setback we face is just a setup for something greater.

Every challenge is a hidden teacher.

And every story — even the painful ones — has value when we choose to tell it honestly.

Final Thoughts

Looking back, my journey has been far from perfect — but it has been real, honest, and full of lessons that no classroom could have taught. From facing financial struggles in childhood to finding my first job as a content writer with no roadmap, every step has been driven by one thing: resilience in personal life.

I didn’t set out to build a career in digital marketing. I simply followed the path that opened up when life closed other doors. What started as survival slowly turned into passion, and then, into purpose. SEO, content strategy, on-page optimization, these weren’t just skills I picked up, they became tools that helped me grow professionally and emotionally.

Today, I may not be the best content writer in the world, but I write with intent, honesty, and a deep sense of responsibility. And I share this story not to glorify hardship, but to remind you — growth doesn’t always come wrapped in success. Sometimes, it’s hidden in the quietest acts of showing up, even when everything feels heavy.

If you’re on a similar path, I hope my story reminds you: you’re not alone.

Keep going. Keep growing. And trust that your journey matters.
